Collect Christmas Gifts All Year Long

We all love to share in the giving at Christmas time, but what a financial burden that can be if you wait until the last minute to stockpile your gifts. Not only can it bankrupt you, but merchandise becomes scarce, even at online stores. How many times have you seen "out of stock" tagged by your favorite item? But, with some wise planning you can accumulate what you want to buy for gifts as early as the day after Christmas this year. Most department stores promote sales throughout the year, and that's a good time to collect your gifts for December. If your Christmas budget is $1000, buy purchasing slowly at about $100 a month year round, you will hardly miss the money. But waiting until after Thanksgiving can burn a hole in your pocket, especially when you factor in your other expenses. Remember that December is also a month when property taxes are due, insurance needs renewing, the grocery bill may be enlarge for holiday entertaining, and so forth. By getting the gifts paid for slowly many months in advance, you will not feel the fiscal crunch at Christmas.

Another opportunity to watch for are "going out of business" sales. Many companies are folding and have to clear their inventories in a hurry. These sales are often advertised in newspapers and can be found year round, so keep a sharp eye out for your holiday gift lists. In addition to the discount tagged prices, you have lots of elbow room to haggle the price down even more. The polite rule with haggling is to always be fair to the merchant. You may be able to bargain down another 10 to 20 percent, but please be resonable, as the vendor has to make some profit too. If you enter the store with some general product knowledge about competitive pricing on certain items, you will find that a friendly and considerate offer wil work wonders at the cash register, whereas both seller and buyer will come out ahead.
